Resumo

Objetivo: Comparar os métodos digital e convencional para a confecção de próteses totais removíveis, avaliando características relacionadas às propriedades mecânicas, tempo clínico, custo, satisfação e conforto do paciente. Materiais e métodos: Foi realizada busca nas bases de dados eletrônicas PubMed, BVS e Scielo, com as palavras-chave: “Computer-Aided Design” AND “Complete Denture” AND “Conventional Impressions”. Após leitura completa dos artigos selecionados, realizou-se as análises comparativas entre os dois métodos. Resultados: As informações coletadas apontaram resultados favoráveis para o método digital no que se refere à adaptação, estabilidade, lisura superficial e resistência à fratura das próteses totais removíveis. O manchamento foi uma característica que se apresentou semelhante nos dois métodos. Conclusão: A aplicação do método digital para confecção das próteses totais removíveis pareceu ser compatível para se alcançar os requisitos adequados em uma prótese total removível com menor tempo clínico.
